wanted it to honor the flavors of the original cocktail. While still being very much a “mead” and with actual fermented fruit as opposed to juices and syrups.
So we took the Pat O’Briens recipe using passion fruit juice, orange juice, grenadine and dark rum and reimagined it with some killer Orange Blossom Honey, fresh Passionfruit juice, genuine Florida Citrus and a blend of Michigan sweet and tart cherries before dunking some Anejo rum staves in for good measure.
Bold and bright. A bit less sweet than our usual wheelhouse. Equally well suited to sipping at room temperature or to the dome when ice cold. A fitting homage to the original beast of Bourbon Street.
I don't usually advocate for using meads as a mixer; however, I'd be remiss if I didn't confess that this mead pairs perfectly with dark rum. A truly elevated Hurricane cocktail!
